Peter became interested in the practice of acupuncture, Chinese medicine, and medicine generally after studying eastern philosophy and beginning to practice yoga and tai chi as an undergraduate student. Upon earning a degree in Fine Arts and Painting specifically, he went on to also complete a pre-medical sciences curriculum and apply to medical school. Upon gaining acceptance to and successfully completing the first year of medical school, he decided that he probably wasn’t with the right group of peers, whereupon he moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC to study acupuncture, where he felt much more at-home with his interest in holistic medicine and health practices.
Part Chinese, his grandfather immigrated and relocated to the United States at a young age, and he has always been curious about how his ancestry may have played a role in his interest in and practice of Chinese Medicine. More recently, he was so impressed by the work he received from a craniosacral therapist, that he decided himself to undertake a course of study and become certified as a craniosacral therapist, widening his skill set as a body worker and acupuncturist.
Before coming to Rutherford Family Acupuncture, he ran a successful international scarf business for 18 years as an entrepreneur.
He is adventurous by nature and has traveled widely both at-home and abroad. As a practitioner, Peter enjoys really getting to know and connect with the patients he works with, and he considers that connection to be an integral part of the healing process. Patients discover in him a deeply caring, compassionate presence and a thoroughgoing approach to their treatment. in addition to his fun and playful character. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys a variety of pursuits, including hiking, paddleboarding, dog-time, yoga, tai chi, music, drawing and painting.
