Before Your First appointment
Please fill out the Health History Form and bring it with you for your free consultation. Your initial consultation is a 15-minute appointment that allows you to meet your practitioner, and discuss your unique medical needs. By the end of the consult, you and your practitioner will have formulated a treatment plan that is tailored to you and your conditions. Please allow yourself up to 30 minutes for this appointment to allow for check-in and check-out time.
After your practitioner has a chance to review your filled out Health History Form, your first appointment will begin with a conversation about your medical complaints. As part of our holistic evaluation, we will progress to a comprehensive review of your systems.
Afterwards, your practitioner will use traditional diagnostic methods to evaluate the internal state of your body, including pulse diagnosis, tongue diagnosis, and abdominal diagnosis. At this time, your practitioner will be able to work with you to create an appropriate treatment plan for your medical needs. During this consultation, your practitioner will be able to address any questions or concerns you may have about acupuncture, Eastern medicine, and the specifics of your condition and treatment plan.
The best clothing to wear for your appointment is loose-fitting, comfortable, two-piece clothing that allows you to relax and enjoy your treatment. The most commonly used acupuncture points are located on the four limbs, from the knees down to the feet, and from the elbows to the hands. We frequently need access to the abdomen for diagnosis and treatment purposes. The ideal clothing can be adjusted to expose these areas. We will typically ask that watches and bracelets be removed, so you may want to keep jewelry to a minimum.
Please avoid caffeine for 3 hours before the visit, and avoid vigorous exercise directly before any acupuncture treatment.
It is encouraged to have a light meal at least 3-6 hours before treatment, but avoid coming in with an overly full stomach. If you have not eaten in several hours, it is important to inform your provider so that we may avoid any sudden drops in blood pressure or blood sugar. Avoid any strongly colored food (blueberries, strawberries, hard candies).
For your first visit, please fill out and bring the Health History Form as well as any information about your medical history that you think might be helpful.
